About Denise
Denise Read is a multi-talented artist, teacher, ASL & LSQ interpreter, and filmmaker with over 39 years of experience shaping Deaf culture across Canada, with her work, also reaching the USA and parts of Europe. She creates ASL & LSQ songs, shows, and films that blend hand poetry, body movement, and drama into a unique and original form of artistic expression.

Experienced Professionals
Denise Read holds degrees in Arts & Science, sign communication, Theater Arts, along with a Teaching Certificate in Special Education. She has trained in Deaf interpretation, and earned certifications in artist management, film & media production, and entrepreneurial business planning. Her education and training underspin over 39 years of artistic and professional work across Canada, the USA, and parts of Europe.

Brief History

In 1997, Denise created Théâtre des Mains, a company dedicated to promoting Deaf culture through the scenic arts. The name, meaning Theater of the hands, highlighted the importance of hands in every Deaf performance, though it was less connected to her film projects.

In 2012, the company was renamed Silent Partnership Productions (SPP), but the name caused confusion with other organizations.

Finally, in the fall of 2017, the company became ASLSQ Entertainment, its current name that reflecting its focus on ASL and LSQ, diversity, and a broad range of artistic projects, including film, theater, music, and events.

Brief Description

ASLSQ Entertainment brings together music, theater, film and events in every production, all presented in LSQ and ASL with simultaneous translation to reach both the deaf and hearing audiences.

Performances include dance, poetry, mime, stand-up, tragedy, monologue, storytelling and comedy, all synchronized with the action on the stage or on film -- creating a dynamic and inclusive artistic experience.
